Services / Fractional engineering

A fractional senior engineer, embedded in your team.

10–20 hours a week on retainer. I take direct ownership of complete features (design, build, ship, run) the way an in-house senior would, inside your repo and your process.

Typically 3-month minimum, monthly thereafter

This is for you if…

  • You're seed to Series A and need senior engineering capacity before a full-time hire makes sense.
  • Your roadmap is slipping because everything routes through one overloaded founder-engineer.
  • You have juniors or contractors who need code review and architecture guardrails.
  • You want someone who can own a feature end-to-end, not a ticket-taker.

What you get

  • Weekly sprint planning + demo
  • Code review + architecture guidance
  • Direct ownership of complete features
  • On-call rotation participation (optional)

Process

How the engagement runs.

  1. 01

    Fit conversation + first month

We agree the first month's outcomes in writing. The 3-month minimum starts only after we've both confirmed the fit is real.

  2. 02

    Weekly cadence

Planning Monday, demo Friday, async in between. I work CET hours daily: 4+ hours of live overlap with European teams, mornings with US East Coast.

  3. 03

    Direct feature ownership

I take complete features from design doc to production, participate in code review, and hold the architecture line as the codebase grows.

  4. 04

    Monthly review

Each month closes with a written summary: what shipped, what's next, where the risks are. Continue, scale up, or wind down monthly after the minimum.

FAQ

Common questions.

Everything you need to trust the number before you act on it.

Why a three-month minimum?

Because the first few weeks of any retainer are spent loading context (your domain, your codebase, your constraints), and that investment only pays off over months, not weeks. After the minimum it runs month to month: continue, scale up, or wind down, decided at each monthly review.

How do you handle time zones?

I work CET hours daily for QOOP: around 4 hours of live overlap with London, 5+ with Berlin, and 1–2 with US East Coast mornings. Everything else is async: written updates, design docs, and a demo you can watch when it suits you.

Can you work inside our existing processes?

Yes. Your repo, your CI, your ticketing, your review process. I've shipped in everything from startup-chaotic to enterprise-formal, and I sign your NDA before seeing anything sensitive.

What if we need more than 20 hours a week?

Short bursts are fine within a retainer month. If you consistently need more, that's a conversation about either a larger retainer block or scoping a fixed-scope project alongside it. It can also be a sign you're ready for a full-time hire, which I'll say if I think it.
