$2.50( $500 ÷ 200,000 ) × 1,000 = $2.50
CPM is the price of 1,000 ad impressions — a cost metric, not a performance one. Pair it with CTR and conversion rate to judge a campaign.

FAQ
Questions, answered fast.
Everything you need to trust the number before you act on it.
What counts as a good CPM?
It varies by channel — Meta often runs $5–12, Google Display $1–4, programmatic display under $2, YouTube $4–10, LinkedIn $8–25+. Narrow B2B targeting pushes CPM up; broad awareness pulls it down. Compare against your own historical CPM, not a universal benchmark.
How do you calculate CPM?
CPM = total ad spend ÷ impressions × 1,000. If you spend $500 to serve 200,000 impressions, the CPM is ($500 ÷ 200,000) × 1,000 = $2.50. You can also rearrange it to find spend (CPM × impressions ÷ 1,000) or impressions (spend ÷ CPM × 1,000).
What's the difference between CPM and CPC?
CPM charges per thousand impressions — you pay to be seen, regardless of clicks. CPC charges per click — you pay only when someone engages. CPM suits awareness campaigns; CPC suits traffic and direct response. Read CPM next to CTR and conversion rate, because a cheap CPM that never converts is not cheap.
Is this calculator really free?
Yes — free forever, no sign-up, no email, no paywall. It runs entirely in your browser; nothing you type is sent anywhere. If you need a custom internal tool built for your team, that's the part I do for hire.
Can I trust the math?
The formula is shown live next to every result, so you can verify it yourself. CPM is a simple ratio — cost ÷ impressions × 1,000 — and the calculator solves it in all three directions with the same equation rearranged.
